Curro Somerset West High School is an independent Curro School bordering Sitari Country Estate, Somerset West that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12. Our small class sizes and enhanced curriculum (which includes the use of tablets in class) empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into self-confident individuals and to reach their personal, educational and eventual workplace goals. Our dedicated teachers and well-rounded approach prepare learners for the IEB examinations at the end of Grade 12.
Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9
In these grades, we guide learners to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity. With dedicated teachers and small class sizes, our enhanced curriculum approach places great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking. At our school 21st-century skills are implemented in subjects such as Technology and Natural Sciences. As a Curro School, learners also receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9. Teaching in high school takes place in English although learners are able to engage with teachers in Afrikaans.
FET phase: Grade 10 and Grade 12
At Curro Somerset West this phase prepares learners for the IEB examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, through our enhanced curriculum we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examination-driven approach. Learners in our small class sizes are taught to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives to be valued members of the community. Some of our specialised subjects to promote the development of 21st-century skills include Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD), Visual Arts and Computer Applications Technology.
We use tablets in class As a Curro School, our learners may choose to use tablets in class rather than textbooks, which further prepares them for the workplace of the future.
At Curro Somerset West we believe that participation in school sports and cultural activities plays an important role in promoting health, team-awareness, discipline and self-confidence in addition to physical and social well-being. Therefore, learners are encouraged to participate in our variety of school sports and cultural activities, including specialised activities such as eSports, swimming and drone racing for the development of 21st-century skills. While healthy competition is encouraged, the enjoyment of the game is not compromised. Our learners also take part in various productions through our School of Creative Thinking.
