ETHA - THE REGIONAL TOURISM ORGANISATION:

Ekurhuleni Tourism & Heritage Association (ETHA) is the RTO (Regional Tourism Organisation) for the entire Ekurhuleni region (formerly known as the East Rand) covering the cities of Alberton, Germiston, Bedfordview, Edenvale, Kempton Park, Boksburg, Benoni, Brakpan and Springs.

ETHA promotes tourism in this vibrant, exciting and beautiful region that should be on every traveller's bucket list. We link together the different role players in tourism such as National Government, Local Government, Tourism Venues, Accommodation, Restaurants, Transport & Tourism Agencies.

This vibrant region of the Gauteng Province has a welcoming atmosphere. With so many passengers arriving at SA busiest airport daily, Ekurhuleni should be on every visitor’s bucket list.

LOCAL TOURISM ORGANISATIONS (LTO):

ETHA is subdivided into 5 LTO’s (Local Tourism Organisations) to better serve the interests of tourism in the region.

TOURISM ATTRACTIONS IN EKURHULENI:

In the heart of the region lies the OR Tambo International Airport, the gateway to a host of  interesting places to visit. Here are just a handful of venues: (please visit our website for the full list)

VENUES - promoted by the KKT:

* The SAA Aviation Museum in Germiston – on display is a variety of passenger aircraft, and this is the only aviation museum in the world with two Boeing 747’s on display. Visitors come from all over the world to view the rare Boeing 747-SP. This 3 hour tour is well worth the visit and is popular with adults and school groups alike.

* The Steam Train Museum – The main objective of Reef Steamers in Germiston is to preserve and rebuild old steam locomotives. To fund their operations, they do school group tours and also run special day and weekend trips for private persons and companies to various destinations.

VENUES - promoted by KTTA:

* The AECI Dynamite Factory Museum in Modderfontein, between Edenvale and Kemptonpark is dedicated to the history of dynamite manufacture in South Africa. The museum puts particular emphasis on the use of dynamite in the mining industry with displays of artefacts from the working factory.

* The CODESA Walkway - Tourists arriving at airport with a couple of hours spare in between flights may want to pop next door for a walk through this display featuring a very important part of SA history, preserved and presented in The CODESA Walkway. Located only a few feet away from the 29 conferencing venues, this awe-inspiring walkway provides a look the CODESA (Convention for a Democratic South Africa) process where talks held at the World Trade Centre, now Emperors Palace, eventually led to a democratic South Africa.

VENUES – promoted by RTA:
